Our Team

Mr. Yasir Iqbal Butt is a career officer of the Foreign Service of Pakistan with over two decades of diplomatic service. He has held key positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in Pakistan’s Missions abroad, representing the country at the United Nations Security Council and various other UN bodies. He has also led Pakistani delegations in numerous bilateral and multilateral negotiations.

He holds a Master of Law and International Development degree from the University of Sydney, Australia.

Most recently, he served as Directing Staff at the prestigious National Institute of Public Administration, a constituent body of the National School of Public Policy, where he oversaw training and evaluation of senior civil servants from across Pakistan.

His overseas assignments include serving as Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Toronto; Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Bangkok; Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP); Vice/Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York; and Third Secretary at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has held several key positions, including Director General for the Americas region, overseeing Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with the USA, Canada and Latin America. He also served as Director for Afghanistan, Director for Disarmament (Chemical Weapons), and Assistant Chief of State Protocol.

He is married and has a son and a daughter.
